Moto Z3 Play receives September 2019 Security patch: US

The US retail variant of the Motorola Moto Z3 Play is receiving the September 2019 security patch update. Users should look out for the update which will push the build number PPWS29.183-29-1-6 to the device. It is just a basic maintenance update from what it seems. There are no other features or tweaks mentioned in the update prompt. The build number of the US variant software is different from the one which recently knocked into Moto Z3 Play in Brazil. The latter also carried the September 2019 security patch update.

OTA updates roll out in phases. It’s like in the first phase a few users will receive the update. Then in the subsequent rollouts, more users will get it. This is an automatic process. However, if you don’t really like the phased rollout and want an instant upgrade to September 2019 security patch on your device, then try to capture the OTA manually.

It is simple to do. Go to device Settings App > System Update. In there hit Check for Updates. If the software update is already available it will show up once checking is complete.

If you don’t get any result in the first try, try a few more times at regular intervals. You will only see the update if it has entered your region. There are other ways to force an OTA which is using a VPN. With a VPN, you can set the country to a region where the update is currently rolling. There are chances that you will receive it as well. Your Moto Z3 Play will be perceived by the server as a device from the region you specified on the VPN.

Also, we recommend our readers to use Wi-Fi to download the software updates. It will save your carrier charges and the download process will be faster. Security patches are important for the well-being of smartphones. So, do not miss the September 2019 patch for Moto Z3 Play US variant.
