Though Xiaomi’s gaming machine Black Shark 2 takes care of integrating new features and improvements, it lags behind when it comes to delivering timely security updates. Last month the OEM dropped the security patch of August. Now, in the mid of November, it is rolling out a new software update that is pushing the October 2019 security patch to the device.
The latest update for the Black Shark 2 is now rolling out from the official servers. It is moving over-the-air. OTAs usually roll out in batches. So, everyone may not receive the update right away. Besides, the update is available globally for all regions. So, the best thing to do now is check for the latest update on your own.
Go to Settings > System > System updates. If the latest software is already available in your region, you should be notified about it. Otherwise, your device will search for the new software. If it shows up, under System updates > tap on “Download and install”.
To save yourself from getting charged by your carrier, use Wi-Fi to download the software update. Also, have over 50% battery charge on your device before installing the new update. The device may deny update if the phone is running low on juice.
It’s great that the OEM is giving attention to the need of gamers and other features. However, it would be an added advantage if Xiaomi takes care to drop the latest security patches as well in the future.
